We maintain rigorous health and safety standards that meet or exceed state requirements, and our staff is trained to create a secure, nurturing environment where children can thrive.

Facility & Security

Controlled Access
  • Locked doors with controlled entry -  visitors must be buzzed in
  • ID verification required at every pickup
  • Only pre-authorized adults listed on enrollment forms may pick up children
  • Visitor protocol: All visitors must sign in, show ID, and be escorted at all times
  • Security cameras throughout the facility in common areas, entrances, and playgrounds

Enhanced Safety Features
  • Barracuda door locks that prevent doors from being opened in case of an intruder
  • Secure classroom environments with age-appropriate safety measures
  • Regular facility inspections to ensure compliance with state regulations

Outdoor Safety
  • Fenced-in, Age-appropriate equipment and play areas
  • Soft surfaces under climbing equipment
  • Shaded areas and water breaks during hot weather

Emergency Preparedness

Regular Safety Drills
We conduct monthly safety drills to ensure staff and children know exactly what to do in any emergency situation:
  • Fire drills
    Tornado/hurricane drills
    Lockdown drills
    Shelter-in-place procedures

  • Emergency Communication
    Parents are notified immediately in case of emergency
  • Emergency contact information is kept current and accessible
  • Detailed emergency action plans are posted in every classroom
  • All staff trained in emergency procedures

Emergency Medical Response
  • All staff maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • First aid supplies readily available in every classroom
  • Emergency medical information for each child on file
  • Direct communication with parents if medical attention is needed

Health & Illness Policy

When to Keep Your Child Home
To maintain a healthy environment for all children, please keep your child home if they have:
  • Fever of 100.4°F or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
  • Vomiting or diarrhea (must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning)
  • Contagious rash or skin infection
  • Pink eye or other eye infection
  • Head lice (may return after first treatment)
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Any illness that prevents them from participating comfortably in activities

Medication Administration
Staff may administer prescription or over-the-counter medication with written parental consent and physician authorization, using properly labeled original containers, and all administration is documented and tracked.

Allergy Management
We create individualized allergy action plans for children with known allergies, and staff are trained to recognize and respond to reactions. Emergency medications, including EpiPens, are stored securely and accessible, and all classroom staff are aware of each child’s allergies.

Background Checks & Screening 
  • Comprehensive background checks required for all staff members before hire
  • Reference verification from previous employers
  • Ongoing monitoring to ensure continued compliance

Professional Development
  • All staff maintain CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Annual training in: Child abuse recognition and reporting, Emergency procedures, Health and safety protocols, Age-appropriate supervision, Medication administration

Snyder Learning Center is proud to be a 5-Star State Licensed program, having voluntarily exceeded the highest standards for staff education and early childhood program quality. We are licensed by the North Carolina Department of Education / Child Care Licensing Division and meet or exceed all state health, safety, and staffing standards. Our program is also nationally accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), reflecting our commitment to excellence and continuous quality improvement.
